VISITOR ENTRY
Every year, many people around the world visit their friends and family members in Australia. Most visitors come for a short period of time, not more than 3 months in one entry. Of them, some visit for holiday or tour programs or participate in events. Businesspeople also come accordingly to their business plans, to attend meetings & seminars and participate in workshops.
Visitor (subclass 600)
A visitor visa is a temporary visa that enables applicants to meet family & friends, tour the country or visit on a business term. This visa allows the visitor to remain in Australia for up to 12 months. But visitors are not allowed to stay more than three months at once. This visa has many streams – Tourist stream (both onshore and offshore), Sponsored family stream, Business visitor stream, Approved Destination Status stream (citizen of People’s Republic of China), Frequent traveller stream (citizen People’s Republic of China).
WORK RIGHT
- This visa does not allow the visitor to work in Australia.
VISA COST AND PROCESSING TIME
- Cost from AUD $380 (applying from onshore Tourist stream) and AUD $150 (applying from offshore all stream) for each applicant and processing time 3-5 months.
GENERAL CRITERIA FOR VISA SUBCLASS 600
- Age: No age limit
- Identity document: Must have a valid travel document or Passport.
- Genuine purpose of visit: Family sponsorship letters, Business invitation letters, or a travel or tour itinerary. Risk assessments are done by the immigration department. Therefore, all papers must be genuine and reliable. (FURTHER DESCRIBED IN MINSTERIAL DIRECTION 69)
- Proof that holder must return home before the expiry of visa without violating of any visa conditions.
- Finance document: Must have enough funds to afford the trip or other financial support must be provided by the sponsor.
- Health requirement: Must meet the health requirement be free from any diseases and health condition.
For business visits documents may include but are not limited to:
- An invitation from an Australian organization hosting this visit.
- Conference registration details.
- A letter from employer stating reasons for visit.
- Complete itinerary stating your plans for your stay and details of your Australian business contacts.
- Proof of your current employment and professional qualifications.
- Evidence to prove that your company is an active business, such as an annual report.
- Evidence of prior contact with Australian businesses.

Electronic Travel Authority (subclass 601)
Travel to Australia as a tourist (to cruise or have a holiday), visit family & friends or visit on a business term. This visa is for 12 months with multiple entry. But visitors are not allowed to stay more than three months at once. Only passport holders of eligible countries can apply.

- This visa does not allow the visitor to work in Australia.
VISA COST AND PROCESSING TIME
- No visa cost, application service charge AUD $20 and processing time is variable.

eVisitor (subclass 651)
Travel to Australia as a tourist (to cruise or have a holiday), visit to family & friends or visit on a business term. This visa is for 12 months with multiple entry. But visitors are not allowed to stay more than three months at once. Only passport holders of eligible countries can apply.

Transit visa (subclass 771)
For transit purpose only, has limitations and conditions, short term stay for up to few days. Maritime Crew visa holder can use this visa to enter Australia.
